Taking a flight to Ilhéus - Jorge Amado Airport (IOS) and renting a car to proceed directly to Barra Grande, is one of the best options and the quickest to reach.

The distance from the Airport to Villa Kandui Maraú is 130 km. 85 km of this route is made by asphalted road until the junction with BR 030 and from this point, there are 45 km of dirt road, which may be in good condition or not depending on the time of year. Although the road is dirt, it is often leveled and can be covered by regular cars for most of the year.

During rainy periods, we recommend renting tall cars, preferably 4 × 4 to avoid inconvenience or delays. With the road in good condition, expect to take approximately 2h30 from the airport to Barra Grande.

Barra Grande (transfer)
Another option is to take a flight to Ilhéus - Jorge Amado Airport (IOS) and take a transfer to the city of Camamu (approx. 2 hours), where the speedboat is crossed to the Pier of Barra Grande. Speedboats leave every hour and the crossing takes about 30 min. It is a very pleasant walk, with a beautiful view of the Bay of Camamu - the 3rd. largest in Brazil. Arriving in Barra Grande take a second taxi to Villa Kandui.

Salvador x Barra Grande

Traveling by car from Salvador to the Maraú Peninsula is the most economical option, but the longest. Leaving Salvador you will take a ferry boat (approx. 45 min crossing) to Bom Despacho - Ilha de Itaparica.

Road description:
Head south on BA 001 towards Camamu and Itacaré. 35km after the city of Camamu, turn left at the roundabout at the third exit onto BR-030 (dirt road) towards Barra Grande. Go straight for 45kms, always towards Barra Grande. Estimated travel time: approx. 6-7 hours.
